A step by step guide for you

This tutorial can be used on big pictures too, not just icons. I dunno if this will turn out good with all pictures, you'll have to try. Do not turn these into scripts to redistribute. Only use for personal uses.
With this tut you can go from this:

Part One

01. Crop your image to get your base. (Keep a copy of it at the side, you'll need it later). Add a new raster layer and fill it with #BBFFFE, then set this layer to 50% Burn.
02. Add a new raster layer and fill it with #A98951, then set this layer to 35% Multiply.
Your base should now look like:

Part Two

Now leave that for a bit. Remember the copy of the original base I told you to keep at the side? We're using that for part 2.

3. Get the your original base and go to Adjust > Brightness & Contrast > Highlight/Midtone/Shadow.
Check "relative adjustment method".
Shadow: 15
Midtone: 50
Highlight: 35
Press OK and merge the image.
Your original base should now look like:

Part Three

4. Copy and paste the merged image from Part Two over the image in Part One.
5. Set that layer to Luminance (Legacy) at 75%.
6. Merge all.

Part Four

7. Go to Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Curves. Change the settings to these:
RGB
Input:
Output: 10

Red
Input: 20
Output: 45

Green
Input: 15
Output: 35

Blue
Input: 15
Output: 40

8.Merge all.

Result

That's it. =D The outcomes may vary depending on the kind of picture you used. You can mess around with the percentages and stuff to get it how you want. But basically you'll end up with something like this:
